It's no secret that being a freelancer these days is tough work, particularly in the hair and make-up industry. I remember during my training at Brushstroke, many moons ago, being told that we would only get to work in one area of the industry, never across the whole of it. Well I can honestly say that's not always true and I feel very lucky to have worked across most of it; television, film, commercials, theatre, corporate, fashion, bridal and education.
I have picked up many skills along the way and love being able to do a variety of jobs (keeps me interested) and adapting my techniques to best suit my clients. I personally believe that in order to sustain longevity as a make-up artist, you need to work in as many areas as possible. Weddings are a fantastic income during the summer and many professionals use this to supplement their income. If you can offer both hair and make-up, then the income is greater, so it makes sense to become confident in both areas.
The same goes for hairdressers. Why not add make-up to your services and maximise your income? You will already have a good understanding of what is required for bridal make-up and how the mornings work, which makes it much easier to grasp.
I am running professional masterclasses from July 2017 at my studio in Wadhurst, East Sussex. My aim is to teach you all the skills you need to expand your business or to simply make you more confident in a particular area. Class sizes are kept small (maximum of 6) and all materials are provided.
There are masterclasses to suit your current skills level so whether you want to gain confidence in basic hairstyling or make-up skills or you want to learn all the bridal styles, there is something for everyone. Attention to detail is key in this industry and being able to adapt to your clients needs, therefore continual practice after the class is essential and I will be on-hand to offer advice and guidance along the way.
